Cutting it close!

What a hectic month August has been and September is looking to be worse LOL!

For my finishes this month I have finished the embroidered wall-hanging for a friend. It was a lot of fun to do and I got to buy a staple gun!

In addition I have some pictures of my Mom in her dress that I finished a couple of days late last month.

She has worn it several times already and I am not tiring in my amazement that I made something my Mom is wearing LOL!

I also finished a 241 tote for a swap and I love it... the pattern is amazing easy and the finished bag has been one of my favourites for awhile. Mine has some piecing in the panels for interest.

So I did not finish my second August goal which is the serger cover. That is for this weekend and I am determined to have it done! At least I got one of my goals and several other things off my plate LOL!

Pattern designer extradonaire!

Ha ha... ok... not quite that exciting :) But I have just put my first paper piecing pattern up for sale. It is a block that I originally designed for quilts for the Boston bombing victims and that is why it is so named the Boston Block.

This is the arrangement I made the block in... it finishes at 12" finished.

This another way you can arrange it.

Hope you like it! (only $1.50) :)

August Goals

Yet again, here I am setting goals... I swear I wouldn't get anything done if it wasn't for this linky party LOL!

I *need* to get a sewing machine cover made plus some kind of extra for a swap... this is how I started it, but took it apart and am making the triangles match up instead.

As well, I need to finish a wall piece made of embroidery and or cross-stitch for another swap. This needs an extra as well... I don't have a picture yet, but you will see the finish at least in a month LOL!

Looking forward to seeing your goals :)

July partial finish

So, for the first time I haven't completed my monthly finish. I said I would have my Mom's Staple Dress done but I still have to do the waistband and hemming. She is going on holiday in less than two weeks and is taking it so it will be done then LOL.

I am still linking up to A Lovely Year of Finishes and hope you are doing the same :)

Pillow time!!

I have been enjoying making pillow (cushion) covers lately as they are great for getting a little creative steam out so that I can concentrate on deadline items LOL.

This first one actually is a deadline item. Camila and I decided to do a side swap of pillows. Originally I believe the timing was for June but I convinced her that mid-August was best (I am so slow when I am stressing about a project :)). Camila does great work and I really wanted my pillow to do justice.

I realize that you are probably looking at this and thinking "huh?". Camila loves Day of the Dead and her house is decorated in blue, green and yellow. She also love EPP and so I kind of combined all of those aspects. She is also a marine biologist who works with sharks, so this is the great backing fabric I found for her on Modern Yardage.

This next pillow is one I made for the shop. I miscalculated (of course) and so had some extra fabric cut from the pillow above, so I cut a little more and came up with this.

I found a fun butterfly print for the back.

I hope you enjoyed seeing a few of my current projects :)

Toughest things I have made...

So a good friend of mine is leaving to go on a 2 week rock climbing trip in Scotland. She asked if I would be able to make her 6 chalk bags, two for hostess gifts and the other 4 as a souvenir for the rest of the gang. I, of course, said yes. I will be more careful of my yes' in future lol.

I broke 10 needles. Heard my machine KERCHUNK more times than I can count. I never thought I would get through the 5 layers of fabric (two of them being nylon webbing). But... I did it!!

Behold! Six chalk bags with six matching belts. I am pretty darned pleased with myself :)

Vermont Quilt Show

This past weekend my Mom and I drive down to Burlington for the Vermont Quilt Festival. This was my Mom's Christmas gift to me, as long as she didn't have to go to the show LOL! Well, luckily I was able to meet up with one of my Flickr friends Amy.

We had an absolute blast! We did two quilt shops and an entire quilt show in 7 hours and didn't stop talking the whole time LOL! I have a few quilts from the show I will share with you.

I had to have my Poppy quilt pictures as I just adore them.

One of my favourites by far, 259 George Washingtons appliqued on 259 different fabrics. I love quirky and this is so much fun!

This one is stunning... the quilt maker over dyed shirts she found at second hand stores to make these basket blocks. Up until this point I was not a fan of baskets but now I am in love LOL.

This one is for my friend Barbara who loves embroidery and cat quilts:)

This one was just marvelous with hidden details in the quilting, as well as little miniature landscapes in each of the boxes you see framing the centre. I have included some close ups below.

Well, I think this is a long enough post... thanks for reading about my amazing weekend!
