Fabriholics Anonymous

So, as some of you may know, I like fabric. *ahem* I mean, I REALLY like fabric! Sadly, neither my storage spaces nor my bank account feel quite the same way. My friend Amy had a post about joining a group planning on curbing their spending and I decided I would join in as well :)

GOALS:

1) To use the Stash I already have!
2) Finish UFOs without distraction by shifting to other new beautiful fabric.
3) Stop the insanity of constantly buying the latest and greatest fabric.
4) Save the $$ I spend on stashing. I really would like to go to Europe this year for my 40th as well as have some more money in savings.
5) to not buy every magazine or book out there!
6)DESTASH the fabrics that I realize I am never going to use. Why keep them when someone else can love them? Plus, more money!

FABRIC FAST RULES:

1) No fabric purchases for 6 months beginning January 1, 2014.
2) At 6 months reevaluate status and decide whether to keep going for full year.  Evaluation July 1, 2014.
3) Create a UFO list and complete them!
4) Exceptions
- Notions that are needed to continue using my current stash
- Buying Quilty magazine
- Solids needed for projects on the go
- Echino Bees - I have promised myself that I can have these and I will :)

In addition, I will be cutting down HUGELY on swaps... Canada Post is upping its rates in March and I would rather send things to people I already am friends with, than finding new ones :) It will be hard but I must be strong!!

So, want to join in?

  1. I know better than to fabric diet. It works just like food diets..I am able to hold off for a while and then I binge like mad. lol What works better for me is when I work on boarding up my fabric. It really brings home HOW MUCH I have and it's kinda gross. And then I don't purchase fabric for quite some time. :) I REALLY need to do the destash thing, though. I just never know the best way to go about it.

I'm with you on the swaps, too. I enjoy the creative challenge, but I need a break from obligation sewing for a while.
I'm sad about postage going up, though. :( It went up like crazy a few years ago between here and Canada (it used to be about the same price as domestic) and now it's almost as expensive as sending overseas. Lame!

  4. so glad to see that you are joining in -- if you don't save enough money to go to Europe, I know a fun group of us NC girls that would love ot meet you and celebrate your 40th with you.

  5. DUDE - Sign me up. I need to do all of the above, too! I was out of control the first part of last year, and de-stashing is going to be at the top of my list this year (hence the QAL I'm running Jan 1). And as selfish as it sounds, maybe a year to quilt for myself and not for others (although I do love a good bee, tee hee) is exactly what my stash needs :)

  6. Postage rates are becoming silly, it will affect the economy as we all cut back.

  8. Six months sound SO long but a healthy purge that I'm considering now that the Holiday binge is over. Good luck with your goal to make it to Europe - that would be an epic way to celebrate the big 4 0 .
